The four pages you actually need on your website

If you’ve been thinking about building your first website — or you’re stuck halfway with too many tabs open and no clear plan - this one’s for you.

Today I’m giving you a quick, no-jargon breakdown of what makes a website actually work - especially when you’re a small or solo business owner.

Let’s keep it simple, strategic, and stress-free.

What goes into a client-winning website?

It’s probably fewer pages than you think, but they each have a clear job to do.

1. Homepage: Your welcome desk
This is where people land first, so it should answer three key questions right away:

  • What do you do?

  • Who is it for?

  • What should I do next?

A strong headline, a short intro, and one clear call-to-action is all you need to start guiding the journey.

2. Services (or Work With Me) Page: The decision-maker
This page should:

  • Clearly explain what you offer

  • Show the value or transformation

  • Make it easy to take the next step (book a call, fill in a form, buy, etc.)

Keep it focused and write like you're having a conversation with a real person, not like you're writing a school essay.

3. About Page: The trust builder
This is one of the most-visited pages on any small business site - because people want to know who’s behind the business.

A great About page includes:

  • A little about you and why you do what you do

  • A photo (yes, please!)

  • A mention of how you help or what it’s like to work with you

It’s not just about credentials, it’s about connection.

4. Contact Page: The easiest YES
Your contact page should make it simple to get in touch. Include:

  • A short, friendly message

  • A contact form

  • Your email address (and phone or location if relevant)

The goal here? Zero friction.

Optional, but powerful extras:

  • A portfolio or case study page (for social proof)

  • A blog or resources page (if you want to educate or boost SEO)

  • An FAQ page (to answer common objections and build confidence)

Remember: You don’t need everything, just the right things in the right places.
