I'm on Behind the Build: Talking Website in One Day with Dave (Squarehead)
I had a brilliant chat with Dave Hawkins from Squarehead for his Behind the Build You Tube series, and I'm so happy to finally share it with you.

What we covered
Dave and I started with the big one: the challenges of building a website in a day (01:04). When you're working to a tight deadline, client expectations carry a lot of weight, so we spent time on how to manage them well, including how client feedback and revisions fit into a single day (02:51).
We also dug into where Website in One Day came from (06:05) and the journey I took before I ever became a web designer (12:11). If you like knowing the story behind the business, that's the bit for you.
A peek inside the day itself
For the practical side, we walked through what a typical build day looks like (18:05) and how I keep clients in the loop with check-ins along the way (25:42). Clear communication is a huge part of why a one day build works, so it comes up a lot.
We also talked about what happens after launch, including post-launch support and resources (29:29) and my offboarding process (35:15). For me, a great website handover means clients feel confident running their site themselves, which is exactly what Empowerment Over Dependency is all about.
The "what if" question
Dave asked the question everyone secretly wants answered: what happens if a site doesn't launch on time? (40:40) You'll have to watch to hear my answer. We finished by chatting about my favourite Squarespace features and preferences (42:01), which is always a fun rabbit hole for a fellow Squarespace nerd.
Why I said yes
Dave has built such a helpful space for Squarespace designers to learn from each other, so I was delighted to be part of it. I love being open about how I work, the wins and the wobbles, because I believe it makes the whole industry better. If you're a designer, I hope it gives you something to borrow.
